WHY RUSSIA? Waste Management Market in Russia

  • Russia has returned to 2nd place of emerging markets. This is the first time, when the country overtook China in the basic indicators.
  • Russia has the most liberal and favorable tax regime
  • New waste legislation in Russia is coming into force, which will create a more structured market. From 2017 waste that can be recycled is prohibited to landfill.
  • Waste volume in Russia is 3,5 bln t including Municipal Solid Waste 40 mln t. MWS recycling potential is estimated to 14 mln t, as of today only 10 % is treated.
  • There is a lack of technologies and recycling plants, and a shortage of equipment in Russia.

Many industry players and commercial lenders including Swiss companies are optimistic about prospects of infrastructure development in Russia.
Russia's rising waste levels, changing in legislation and lack of existing infrastructure make Russian waste market perfect for investment.
