Minister of Housing and Public Utilities of the Moscow Region promises to solve the problem of burying 3 million tons of waste by the end of the year

Moscow region will solve the problem of burial of 3 million tons of "scarce" waste by the end of the year

According to the Minister of Housing and Public Utilities of the Moscow Region, Yevgeny Khromushin, the region intends to completely solve the problem of the shortage of places for MSW burial by the end of this year. It is planned to commission at least 5 waste treatment facilities by 2020.

According to the Minister, in order to close the shortage of places for garbage disposal in the Moscow Region this year, waste processing facilities in Myachkovo, Sergiev Posad, Kashira and Yegoryevsk, as well as in Povarovo, are preparing to be commissioned.

According to the territorial scheme of waste management in the Moscow region, the total amount of MSW, according to 2019, is about 4.010 million tons. Of them:

  • hazard class 4 - 2.511 million tons;
  • hazard class 5 - 1.499 million tons.

According to estimates, the shortage of places for landfill in the Moscow region is about 3 million tons.

Possible shifts in the terms of commissioning of waste treatment facilities will not aggravate the situation, since the volume of MSW entering the region from Moscow is reduced. In 2019, the capital plans to introduce 4.6 million tons in the Moscow Region, in 2020 - 2.5 million tons, in 2021 - 1.4 million tons, in 2022 - 1.4 million tons.

According to the target indicators of MSW management indicated in the scheme, in 2019 the share of disposed waste from the total amount of generated waste will be 68%. It is planned that by 2030 the figure will decrease to 17%.

According to Article 1 of the Federal Law of the Russian Federation dated 24.06.1998:

  • waste treatment - preliminary preparation of waste for further disposal, including sorting, disassembling, cleaning.
  • waste disposal - isolation of waste not subject to further disposal in special storage facilities in order to prevent the entry of harmful substances into the environment.
